Although he once thought it was “voodoo,” Calvin Brown is now a big believer of acupuncture. Calvin, who is 57 years old and from St. Cloud, had been dealing with chronic sinusitis for a while. He had tried antibiotics, Allegra and several different nasal sprays but found no relief.
Through work, his wife discovered the group acupuncture sessions at Lifestyle Health by CentraCare, which brings together conventional and holistic medicine to support complete well-being — in mind and body. She decided to go there for pain in her arm. After finding success, she recommended that Calvin try it for his sinuses.
He first came to Lifestyle Health in January for a consultation with Josh Revermann, a licensed acupuncturist (LAc).
“Josh told me that my body wasn’t moving fluid efficiently, and that I would need to be patient with the process,” said Calvin. “After about two months of group acupuncture, I woke up one morning and it was like everything had been lifted.”
Calvin continues to attend group acupuncture with Josh for sinuses, when needed, and for some sciatic problems in his hip. He is now back to kayaking, cross-country skiing and enjoying the outdoors.
“I am feeling better, I am sleeping better and I am spending more time outside. If traditional medicine hasn’t been working for you, I would highly recommend acupuncture. Listen to recommendations from the acupuncture professional and be patient,” he said.
“Calvin was very skeptical at first but open to the possibility that acupuncture may help him,” said Josh. “When he initially came in he said that ‘I don’t know that this is something that you can help me with, but you helped my wife, so I will give it a shot.’ “
Josh said that Calvin followed his treatment plan and over time he saw the result that he thought he wouldn’t be able to achieve.
“Now he is extremely grateful and thankful for the changes he experienced from receiving acupuncture. It has been a pleasure working with Calvin,” said Josh.
